Hi! I’m SO excited to be here. Thank you, Jesse, for inviting me today. Believe it or not, this is my secod time blogging and I am jazzed to have another opportunity to introduce myself.
I consider myself a Western girl through and through. I was born and raised in Salt Lake City. I have had the opportunity to work and live in some fabulous places in the US, including South Florida. I now call Kentucky home, where I write full time. I will admit that as much as I love my current hometown, I miss the mountains and need to go back to my roots to get my mountain fix at least once a year.
To date, I’ve published six books. The first four are contemporary romances, pulled from various memories from the antics of my friends when I was single—back when all of us were looking for that someone special to spend our life with, out of the thousands to choose from. I have two romantic mystery/suspense/thrillers. My latest, The Sin Factor, was the first Romantic Suspense novel that I’ve published.
I’m not sure if I can put a label on the type of suspense I write, but I see a few similar patterns in my work of TV shows I love. I’m a big fan of NCIS. What’s not to love about the characters and the twists? The same goes for The Mentalist. In my opinion, both shows do an excellent job of showing the characters’ human sides as well as their heroic sides. They make you think about what’s going on in today’s world. In my books, however, rather than have a cop or agent in the lead, I use average citizens, who are just trying to get by, and add a few twists of my own. I strive to come up with fun characters—people you would love to call friends. And we all know friends have their baggage and when we discover what makes them tick, we come to love them even more.
The Sin Factor isn’t your average Romantic Suspense. As I see it, the current trend is to pack so much action and danger into the ride, leaving the romance as a side line. I don’t skimp on the romance. And because I love puzzles, I don’t skimp on intrigue, either. I love mystery/suspense stories that provide this element.
When Jeffrey Sinclair is forced to unravel the puzzle of who is stealing from his company and why, he gets caught up in a deadly game, one perpetrated by those who’ve vowed to protect our freedom. He and his colleagues infiltrate the life of the one person they feel is the link to solving the mystery, Avery Montgomery.
Avery is the widow of the last known person to have their devices in his possession before he died. Avery is a woman heroes marry and protect for life, and Sin’s never been the protecting, hero type, not like her dead husband was. When it becomes obvious that someone is threatening Avery, Sin believes it’s for the same reasons he and his partners are interested in her. He follows the twists and turns of the chase and does everything in his power to keep her safe while fighting to keep the attraction he feels in check. And in the end he realizes that somehow he’s become exactly what he never thought possible…her hero.
In essence, The Sin Factor is a story about the struggle for righting wrongs, or finding justice, or everyday people standing up for what is right. What I really love about The Sin Factor is that after reading it and being entertained in the process, I come away thinking about the gray areas of life. One of my characters says it best in the last chapter. “The world is changing. No longer black and white. The men we expect to be heroes aren’t so heroic anymore. And those thought to have no heroics surprise the hell out of us.”
