Speed Racer only lights up once put in motion, and thus will not require constant turning on and off. Based on LED technology (light emitting diode), the rim light will endure through almost any terrain as well as rough handling. Want to bike in the rain or through small ponds? This is a great product. My 7 year old loves them. This was one of those things that definitely helps him want to work on riding his bike more. He took no interest before when he was small enough for training wheels so he has to learn to do a two wheel without the aid of training wheels.
The lights flash once he gets going, but since he doesn't maintain the speed, they turn off pretty quickly. But I'm certain if he was able to keep the wheels going they would stay lit.
This is definitely a fun addition to his bike, one that I'm certain he'll enjoy more and more as he masters the art of riding a two wheel.
If you like to have fun things on your bike, this is definitely a route to go.
