I don't know how many of you wonderful readers know, but I had to pull my son out of public school. It was a tough choice because there wasn't any other options for us - private school is way out of our means. So it's been left in my hands to educate my now 7 year old. And let me tell you, I have no clue what 1st graders learn! Since mid-September when we took him out, I've done my best. In October, I found time4learning.com. It has been a blessing!
Brody works hard on it. The system is designed to let you set up an activity schedule. I made one all the way until May, figuring that's when regular school gets out anyways. When he's finished what's assigned for the week, then I let him pick what he wants to do. It's a nice way for him to pick things he's more intersted in and allows us to have moments of being ahead in our activities when we get to them. He's did all the Science and Social Studies in the first available tier, so he moved on to the next tier. For the SS, it's 3rd grade, so I sit with him and read the things to him. We've been doing T4L since October and love it. We also do written work from workbook we found that were more interesting to him than your standard ones. We use Star Wars ones. :) He's already finished all the 1st grade books, so we've moved on to the 2nd grade ones.
So far, this is working great for him. He works hard, loves doing it, and it allows him to have a ton of freedom in his own choices about what he wants to study, while keeping him on the same page as his peers. I'd love it if T4L would add some assessments so I knew if we were right on track. I don't plan on Brody being homeschooled forever, so I'd really like some confirmation that I've not screwed him up. LOL.
This is a great choice for those doing homeschool, or even those that want to add something fun and educational to the afterschool mix. I highly recommend it!
