There is something about the paranormal that speaks to us. The vampires dance on mortality and bring a desire to live forever in a romanticized world of taking on an eternal life with so many perks. The werewolves and shifters morph in to the animals that we truly yearn to become. Ghouls and ghost exist in a realm of in-between, defying death and preying on the living. Whatever your poison is, there's something for you in paranormal. Now, throw in YA and you get YA issues that connect with readers in a way that these paranormal creatures enable us to transcend boundaries and talk about the hard things that not everyone wants to face. Rock on Paranormal guys for taking one for the team!
I write what I know. I know VAMPIRES. Now, that might seem like a crazy notion- maybe you've already scrolled passed this. But if you haven't let me tell you something about me. When I was a little girl, around age 5, I was convinced I was bitten by a vampire. We won't mention that I had a big sister that planted the idea in my head and it created a life long obsession. When I went to graduate school, my thesis was on modern Vampire culture- I'm a cultural anthropologist by training. Yes, I'm talking about REAL vampires. I ate pizza with them and hung out. They were pretty normal. But I've read just about EVERY myth, EVERY academic piece written on them, EVERY book related to modern day vampires. So, yes, I can say- I know vampires.
In my YA paranormal series, the Bella Vampires Series, I use vampires, werewolves, and witches- there might be some others in it by the end (I'm working on the end of book 3 right now). Bella Notte is the first book in the series. You can grab a copy by clicking the title "Bella Notte."
In my adult paranormal series, the Kat Purrowells Series, I use almost any paranormal and strange creature I could think of- I'm working on the second book. The first book is Dead to Bites, if you're interested.
